Neil Jairath, MD
Neil K. Jairath, MD is a dermatologic surgery fellow at Indiana University School of Medicine, where he specializes in Mohs micrographic surgery and dermatologic oncology. He completed his dermatology residency at New York University, serving as Administrative Chief Resident, and earned his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School, where he graduated with Distinction in Research and received the Academic Achievement Award as the top-ranking student in his class. He holds a BS in Premedical Studies and Computer Science from the University of Notre Dame.
Neil's research spans AI applications in dermatologic surgery, cutaneous oncology, and health equity. He has published over 50 peer-reviewed manuscripts in journals including JAMA Dermatology, European Urology, Lancet Oncology, and the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, with a particular focus on leveraging machine learning to improve skin cancer diagnosis and surgical decision-making. He was elected as one of two residents nationally to the AAD Data Standardization Committee and has served as a Guest Editor for AI-focused special issues in peer-reviewed journals.
Beyond the clinic and the lab, Neil is a physician-entrepreneur. He is the co-founder of Prava Medical (DermFlow), an AI-powered asynchronous teledermatology platform designed to expand access for rural and Medicaid populations, and the founder of KinetiTec, an intelligent mobility services platform aimed at combating in-hospital immobility. He completed the MassChallenge accelerator as a top finalist and has raised seed funding to advance his ventures.
Neil is passionate about empowering the next generation of dermatologists through mentorship, innovation, and advocacy, and believes that trainees are uniquely positioned to drive meaningful change in how dermatologic care is delivered and accessed.

Ladan Mostaghimi, MD
Dr. Ladan Mostaghimi worked as a primary care physician from 1986 to 1989 and then started her first set of residency training in dermatology at Claude Bernard University in Lyon France. Later, she immigrated to the United States and completed a residency in psychiatry at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She later joined the Faculty in the Department of Dermatology, establishing and directing the Psychocutaneous Clinic in addition of seeing dermatology patients.
After her residency, in addition to working for the UW- Madison dermatology department, she has worked as a psychiatry consultant for different organizations including Madison Psychiatric Associates, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the Department of Corrections as well as Mendota Mental Health Institute.
Dr. Mostaghimi established the Wisconsin-Madison Psychocutaneous Clinic in 2018 to explore a free standing model of providing specific psychiatry services to other physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of complex mind and skin diseases. In addition to Psychocutaneous disorders, the clinic also offers psychiatry consults for adults from primary care offices and other settings in need of general psychiatry services.

Rachel P. Kowal, MD
Dr. Rachel Kowal is a board-certified dermatopathologist who joined the Indiana University Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in 2020. She returned to academic medicine after nine years in the private sector to pursue her passion for undergraduate and graduate medical education. In addition to practicing dermatopathology at Indiana University Health Physicians, she develops the preclinical pathology curriculum for medical students at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) and serves as the Director for Medical Student Pathology Electives, Director of Statewide Digital Pathology, Statewide Pathophysiology Discipline Consultant, and Phase I Pathology Instructor at the Bloomington regional medical campus. She is the director, main lecturer, and content creator of the IU Dermatopathology Review Course, a CME-accredited course which she founded in 2022. This course provides free educational materials to around 600 registrants each year and reaches learners on six continents who may not otherwise have access to dermatopathology resources. Through the development of inclusive teaching materials and participation in regional and national speaking engagements, she is committed to increasing awareness and understanding of the histopathology of dermatologic conditions in skin of color. In addition to her roles in clinical dermatopathology and pathology education, she’s dedicated to mentoring medical students and facilitating lifespan and faculty development initiatives as co-chair of the Special Interest Research Subcommittee of the Diversity Council at IUSM.

Vignesh Ramachandran, MD
Vignesh Ramachandran, MD, is a board-certified dermatologist and fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology who treats adults and children in full-spectrum general, medical, and cosmetic dermatology conditions affecting the skin, hair and nails. When he was a child, he and his family immigrated to a small town of 16,000 in Ontario, Canada before his educational journey brought him to the United States. Dr. Ramachandran still maintains those small townvalues, merging relentless hard work with compassion, honesty and humility to care for his patients and community.
Dr. Ramachandran graduated as a Presidential Scholar from the Dean’s Scholars Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. He then graduated #1 in his medical school class at the top-ranked Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas, where he was inducted into the prestigious Gold Humanism and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Societies. He went on to complete his internship in Internal Medicine at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, where he was awarded Outstanding Intern of the Year. Dr. Ramachandran then completed his dermatology residency at the world-renowned Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at New York University. By the end of his three years of residency, he was nationally recognized as a 3-time 'Rising Derm Star’, was an investigator in several clinical trials, published 100 peer-reviewed research papers, and served on national dermatology committees. He culminated his residency training with the Irwin M. Freedberg, M.D. Award for the resident who has done the most to advance Dermatology in the ‘House of Medicine’. -
Richard Gunderman, MD, PhD
Richard Gunderman is Chancellor's Professor of Radiology, Pediatrics, Medical Education, Philosophy, Liberal Arts, Philanthropy, and Medical Humanities and Health Studies at Indiana University. He is also John A Campbell Professor of Radiology and in 2019-21 served as Bicentennial Professor.
He received his AB Summa Cum Laude from Wabash College; MD and PhD (Committee on Social Thought) with honors from the University of Chicago; and MPH from Indiana University. He was a Chancellor Scholar of the Federal Republic of Germany and received honorary Doctorates of Humane Letters from Garrett Theological Seminary at Northwestern University and Wabash College.
Gunderman is a ten-time recipient of the Indiana University Trustees Teaching Award, and in 2015 received the Indiana University School of Medicine's inaugural Inspirational Educator Award. He was named the 2008 Outstanding Educator by the Radiological Society of North America, the 2011 American Roentgen Ray Society Berlin Scholar in Professionalism, and the 2012 Distinguished Educator of the American Roentgen Ray Society. In 2012, he received the Alpha Omega Alpha Robert J. Glaser Award for Teaching Excellence, the top teaching award from the Association of American Medical Colleges. In 2013, he was the Spinoza Professor at the University of Amsterdam. In 2019, he received the Glenn Irwin Distinguished Faculty Award and in 2020 the Association of University Radiologists awarded him its Gold Medal and elected him to its inaugural class of fellows.
He serves on numerous boards, including Christian Theological Seminary and Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Medical Society, and he is the faculty advisor to over a dozen student interest groups, honorary organizations, and service events.
He is the author of more than 1,100 articles and has published 15 books, including "We Make a Life by What We Give" (2008), "X-ray Vision" (2013), "Essential Radiology 3rd ed" (2014), "We Come to Life with Those We Serve" (2017), "Pediatric Imaging 2nd ed" (2018) and "Tesla" (2019). In 2020, he published "Contagion" and "Marie Curie." He has delivered over 750 keynote addresses, named lectures, and grand rounds presentations. He is president of the 10,000+ member Indiana State Medical Association.

My name is Josh Mijares, and I am originally from Newburgh, IN. I received my B.S. in Biochemistry from the University of Notre Dame and minored in Science and Patient Advocacy. I am particularly interested in teledermatology, dermatologic oncology, and inflammatory dermatoses.

Amber Nelson-Fuller, Co-Lead
Amber is a third-year medical student at the Indiana University School of Medicine and a dedicated student co-lead for Indiana Dermatology Trainee Advocacy Day (DTAD). She has been involved with DTAD for the past three years, including two years in a leadership role, helping to coordinate programming and expand student engagement in advocacy. Her interests in medicine include mentorship, health advocacy, and improving representation and care within skin of color dermatology.

Yatziri Moreno, Research Team Member
My name is Yatziri Moreno and I'm from Hammond, IN. I am a second-year medical student at IUSM's Indianapolis campus. I completed my Neuroscience B.S. at IU Bloomington. Prior to starting medical school, I spent my gap year scribing for a rheumatologist. It was this experience that piqued my interest in autoimmune and autoinflammatory conditions of the skin. I am passionate about advancing health equity within dermatology. I am dedicated in making dermatologic care more accessible and inclusive for all communities.

My name is Grace Armstrong, and I am a third-year medical student at Indiana University School of Medicine. I am from the Chicago suburbs and earned my bachelor's degree in biology from Washington University in St. Louis. My interest in dermatology started while working as a medical assistant and histology technician before medical school. Within dermatology, I am passionate about dermatopathology, cutaneous oncology, and health disparities.

Laura Clarke, Research Team
My name is Laura Clarke, and I am a second-year medical student at Indiana University School of Medicine. I am originally from Evansville, Indiana, but grew up two hours north of Seattle, Washington, in a rural, dairy, and blueberry-dominated county. While living there, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Neuroscience from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. After graduation, I was delighted to return to my Midwest roots to pursue a medical degree through the Rural Medical Education track here at IUSM. Within the field of dermatology, my interests include barriers to care, atopic dermatitis, inherited/pediatric skin conditions, and patient education on malignancy prevention.

I'm from Indianapolis. I received my Bachelor of Science in Nursing from IU Bloomington and worked as an Emergency Department RN for 5 years prior to beginning medical school. I am passionate about the intersection of women's health and dermatology, particularly vulvar dermatology, as well as increased accessibility to dermatologic care.

Manoj Bhagwat, Research Team Member
My name is Manoj Bhagwat, and I’m from Carmel, IN. I received my undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago, majoring in Biology and minoring in Media Arts and Design, and stayed an additional year for a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences. I’m interested in dermatologic oncology, as well as the intersection of AI and dermatology, including the systemic biases posed by these systems.

My name is Courtney Lawmaster, and I'm from Bremen, IN. I completed my undergraduate education at Purdue University, where I majored in nutrition science. Within dermatology, I am interested in how malnutrition contributes to skin conditions and how food insecurity shapes dermatologic and overall community health outcomes. From my experience with the American Academy of Dermatology's Camp Discovery, I am also passionate about expanding equitable care to pediatric populations.
